Working Fire on Landing Avenue



At approximately 15:30 hours, the Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Landing Avenue. Upon arrival, units encountered a well-involved fire consuming portions of the first and second floors, as well as the attic space.


Numerous members initiated an aggressive interior attack and were able to contain the fire to its area of origin. Approximately 75 firefighters responded, including multiple units from the Smithtown Fire Department and the Smithtown Fire-Medic Company. Mutual aid was provided by the Kings Park, Commack, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Nissequogue, and Central Islip Fire Departments, as well as Commack Ambulance and Stony Brook Ambulance.


One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene. The fire was brought under control in approximately an hour and a half under the direction of Assistant Chief Palazzo and Chief of Department Daniel Dongvort.
