Helping Our Neighbors

Writer's picture: Smithtown Fire DepartmentSmithtown Fire Department

Yesterday, the members of the Smithtown FD assisted our neighboring departments on two separate occasions. The first occurred at 1936hrs where a request was made by the Kings Park FD for our Rescue truck to respond to assist with a Motor Vehicle Accident. Rescue 4-2-9 , Engine 4-2-5 and Asst. Chief Dongvort 4-2-33 responded and assisted Kings Park crews with a Heavy Rescue MVA with multiple patients trapped.

Later in the evening, at 2256hrs the Hauppauge Fire Department requested an Engine to respond to assist with a working house fire on Grissom Way. Engine 4-2-5, Chief Fitzpatrick 4-2-30 and Asst. Chief Duckham 4-2-32 responded and assisted Hauppauge with extinguishing the fire and searching for a missing occupant. The longstanding mutual aid agreement between neighboring departments across Suffolk County allows for a seamless addition of resources to any incident. We appreciate the help these departments, and others, have given us in the past and we stand ready to assist them at future alarms.
