The Smithtown Fire Department was tone out for a signal 13 (Structure Fire) at 22:31 (10:31pm) on January 2, 2018 with the location of 222 Brooksite Drive.
Initial reports from Suffolk PD on scene stated that the wood framed single family residence was quickly becoming a fully involved house fire with one occupant jumping for safety from a second floor window.
Arriving first on scene was Chief 4-2-32 Diecidue) who immediately declared a 13-35 (Working Structure Fire)
Arriving units were confronted with a heavy fire load and began operations to make an exterior attack on the blaze.
Due to the extent of the fire it was not declared under control until 01:10 (1:10am)
There were two occupants in the home at the time of fire. A male who jumped from the second floor window was transported to the Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A female occupant was able to escape through a first floor door and was also transported to Stony Brook. No report at this time as to the extent of injuries to either occupant.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Smithtown Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
Arriving on scene after the fire was Smithtown Highway Department heavy equipment which demolished the remaining structure for safety concerns.
